Aurantii fructus immaturus, referred to as Zhishi in traditional Chinese medicine, is the dried immature fruit harvested from Citrus aurantium L. or Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck, typically collected from May to June. With a long history of clinical application, it is recognized for its dual value in both medicinal and dietary contexts. AFI has traditionally been utilized in addressing gastrointestinal disorders, including diarrhea, gastric distension, and uterine descent. Extracts of flavonoids from AFI have demonstrated potential in suppressing hepatic inflammation, alleviating oxidative stress, and providing protective effects against liver fibrosis and lipotoxicity. Additionally, research indicates that AFI can enhance the cytolytic function of natural killer cells and facilitate gastric emptying in experimental animal models.

Aurantii fructus immaturus (AFI) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material with applications in managing various health conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and gastrointestinal ailments. Sourced from the bitter orange plant (Citrus aurantium), AFI contains multiple bioactive constituents, including flavonoids, alkaloids, volatile oils, and coumarins.
